Cycling in Cornwall

Cycling in Cornwall is a popular activity for both locals and visitors alike, thanks to the region’s stunning coastal scenery, rolling countryside, and network of cycling trails and routes. With a mild climate and relatively flat terrain, Cornwall is a great destination for cyclists of all abilities.

One of the most popular cycling routes in Cornwall is the Camel Trail, a 17-mile long trail that follows the route of a disused railway line from Padstow to Wenfordbridge. The trail is flat and easy to navigate, making it suitable for cyclists of all abilities. Along the way, cyclists can enjoy stunning views of the River Camel and the surrounding countryside, as well as plenty of opportunities to stop and rest at cafes and pubs along the route.

Another popular cycling destination in Cornwall is the Cornish Way, a 180-mile long route that runs from Bude in the north to Land’s End in the south. The route takes in some of Cornwall’s most scenic landscapes, including the rugged coastline of the north coast and the rolling hills of the south.

For those looking for a more challenging cycling experience, there are plenty of hillier routes to explore in Cornwall. The Lizard Peninsula, for example, is home to some of the steepest and most challenging climbs in the region, while the Bodmin Moor area offers a range of off-road trails and mountain bike routes.

In addition to these established routes and trails, Cornwall is also home to a thriving cycling scene, with a number of cycling clubs and events taking place throughout the year. The Tour of Britain, for example, has passed through Cornwall several times in recent years, while the annual Cornwall Tor is a popular event for local cyclists.

For visitors to Cornwall who don’t have their own bikes, there are plenty of options for bike hire throughout the region. Many of the established cycling routes, such as the Camel Trail, have bike rental shops located nearby, while there are also several companies that offer guided cycling tours and packages.

Overall, cycling in Cornwall is a fantastic way to explore the region’s stunning landscapes and rich history. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist looking for a challenge or a beginner looking to explore at a leisurely pace, there is something for everyone to enjoy on two wheels in Cornwall.
